Police Chief Simulator Ammunition Types and Loadouts
Match the round to the threat, not every call needs the same bang.
Every police call is different. A traffic stop is not a domestic disturbance is not a gang-related incident. Perfect Circle Team built an ammo system where choosing the right ammunition matters as much as choosing the right officer. This page covers the types confirmed for the 17 September 2026 full launch, their intended uses, and how loadouts feed into the patrol unit dispatch system.
If you are still learning the stamp desk, finish Getting Started first. Street work without a working registration desk is a fast way to run out of cash before you see a patrol call. If you need to understand how officers get equipped before a mission, read hire staff.
Why ammunition matters
The 31 July 2026 Steam post titled “Types of Ammo” was explicit: each ammo type has its own purpose, and choosing correctly affects outcomes. This is not a gear-check cosmetic. The studio described a system where a poorly loaded patrol unit will have a harder time resolving a call, and where the chief’s equipment orders directly influence what officers can do in the field.
The fantasy is a precinct that thinks before it acts: arrest teams with the right tools, less-lethal options for volatile but non-deadly situations, and a working knowledge of what each round actually does.
Handgun ammunition
The standard sidearm round. Handgun ammunition is the baseline for patrol officers and the expected loadout for routine calls: traffic stops, welfare checks, and paperwork delivery. Every officer has access to it by default.
Use handgun rounds for:
- Suspects who are armed but not in cover
- Low-risk encounters where lethal force is not justified
- Training and qualification scenarios
Rifle ammunition
Higher velocity, longer effective range. Rifle ammunition is for situations where the suspect is at distance, barricaded, or equipped with body armour that handgun rounds cannot penetrate reliably. The 31 July post noted rifle ammo as a distinct type with its own tactical role.
Use rifle ammunition for:
- Barricaded suspects
- Suspects in vehicles at range
- High-risk warrants where handgun stopping power is insufficient
Shotgun ammunition
Spread pattern, short range, high stopping power at close distance. Shotgun rounds are the close-quarters option in the system. The spread means accuracy at distance is poor, but within a room or a narrow street, the pattern covers more target area than a single rifle round.
Use shotgun ammunition for:
- Building entries where distance is limited
- Vehicle stops in tight spaces
- Situations requiring immediate hard stop at close range
Less lethal options
The 31 July post specifically called out less lethal as a category. Perfect Circle Team described these as the tools for volatile but non-deadly situations — a person in mental health crisis, a crowd control scenario, or a domestic call where nobody has a lethal weapon but the situation is escalating.
Less lethal does not mean ineffective. It means the outcome is designed to be an arrest rather than a fatality. A precinct that trains its officers in less lethal deployment and reserves lethal options for genuine threats is following the studio’s stated design intent.
Use less lethal for:
- Mental health crisis calls
- Non-armed but violent suspects
- Crowd control with a goal of arrest, not dispersal
How loadouts connect to dispatch
The dispatch system described on the Winston Springs map page involves choosing a case, assembling a team, preparing equipment, sending officers, and waiting for a result. Ammunition is part of that equipment preparation step.
A patrol unit sent to a high-risk call without rifle ammunition is under-equipped. A low-risk call sent with less lethal already loaded is appropriately scaled. Chiefs who manage equipment as a strategic resource — not just a checkbox — will have better outcomes than chiefs who send officers with default loadouts on every call.
This system is part of the full launch on 17 September 2026. The Demo and Prologue do not include the dispatch layer that makes ammunition choice a strategic decision. Treat this page as preparation for the county campaign, not a description of currently playable content.
What to do before launch
- Practise the desk so the precinct has operating funds.
- Read patrol car so vehicle damage and workshop repair make sense.
- Understand hire staff so officers exist to equip.
- After 17 September, check patch notes for whether the dispatch equipment system shipped on day one.
The right ammunition saves lives. That is not a moral statement about the game — it is the studio’s design description for a system that rewards preparation over reflex.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What ammunition types exist in Police Chief Simulator?
Confirmed types include handgun, rifle, shotgun, and less lethal options. Each has a distinct tactical role described in the 31 July 2026 official post.
Does ammunition choice affect patrol outcomes?
Yes, the studio stated that choosing the right ammunition affects outcomes. Under-equipped units will have a harder time resolving calls.
Can I use less lethal in the Demo?
The dispatch equipment system is a full-launch feature for 17 September 2026. The Demo focuses on station management and the registration desk.
How does ammunition connect to the dispatch system?
When sending patrol units on assignments, you prepare their equipment including ammunition. A properly loaded unit is better equipped for the specific call type.
